Cobalt is widely used in magnets and wear-resistant, high-strength alloys. Cobalt has also long been used as a pigment for glass, ceramics, inks and paints. Often produced as a by-product of copper and nickel mining, cobalt is found in cobaltite, erythrite, glaucodot and skutterdite ores. The largest producer of cobalt ore is the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
